There's no visible display on the bike because all of its functions are controlled with a single button on the top tube.

The bike's PAS setting is indicated with green, yellow, or red on the full-color light ring around the button.

Fortunately, as I mentioned, the prologue compares with my smart bike app. With the addition of a phone mount, your phone can be used as a display to read battery level, PAS setting, speed, etc.

Powering the Transex E-Plus Elite is the Sync Drive Pro 2 motor, with up to 85 newton meters of peak torque. It's fueled by a slim 400-watt-hour Panasonic battery, which is bolted securely within the down tube.

It's possible to purchase a 200-watt-hour range extender battery, which increases the total capacity by 50 percent.

On a relatively flat ride, I managed barely 30 kilometers and 400 meters of elevation gain before the battery ran out, which isn't good, especially as I'm on the lighter side.

The Thunder One's 350-watt-hour Samsung battery is hidden entirely within the frame's down tube.

Bellatrix says that the Thunder One can last up to 70 miles on a full battery.

Charging takes six hours to go from zero to one hundred percent using the included 36-volt power adapter.

The 350-watt motor is similarly hidden inside the rear wheel hub.

The Thunder One uses a torque sensor to measure how much force you're applying to the pedals.

On day one, with a mix of city and suburban driving and quite a few hills, it seems the Thunder One is more like a 40 to 50-mile bike than a 70-mile one.

When fully assembled, it's tough to spot the 'e' in this e-bike.

The bike's strengths and weaknesses gradually become apparent.

The Bellatrix Thunder has superior craftsmanship with proper beaded weld joints.

The control panel on the top tube includes a battery meter, a fingerprint scanner, and a six-color ring light.
